What to expect on a Cruise!
As you hold your carry-on bag and board your cruise ship, you may wonder what awaits you. For the first-time cruiser, not knowing what to expect may feel overwhelming. While all cruise lines have different layouts and offerings, they all have some features in common. Learning about these before your trip will help calm some of those pre-cruise nerves, allowing you to enjoy anticipating your upcoming vacation.
Arrival
When you board the ship, the ship’s photographer will ask you to pose for an embarkation picture. You do not have to buy, but consider posing so you have the option to purchase the photo later. Then the staff will look at your boarding card and help you find your cabin. Waiters from the ship’s bar may offer you a drink in a souvenir glass. According to Cruise Diva, these drinks are not complimentary. You will need to sign for the drink, but if you do, you can keep the souvenir glass.
Muster Drill
At some point after arrival, the ship will have a muster drill, which allows everyone to practice an evacuation. For the drill, you will need a life jacket, which will be either in your cabin or at the cruise ship’s muster station. A sign on the back of your cabin door tells you where to go in an emergency. When the siren sounds, leave your cabin and head to this location. Wear your life jacket if the ship stores them in the cabins. When you arrive at the designated location, you will check in with a crew member and wait to be dismissed back to your cabin. Read More
